A father’s wild chase down social media’s rabbit hole

Documented entirely on smartphone and computer screens, Searching is a 102-minute trail of a desperate father tracking his missing daughter purely using social media.

David Kim (John Cho) is a single father struggling to raise his teenage daughter Margot (Michelle La) after her mother’s death. One night after a study group session, Margot goes missing.

With the help of a local detective (Debra Messing), David begins to track his daughter’s digital footprints to find clues of her whereabouts. By searching through various applications from Facebook to Paypal, David tries hard to construct possible outcomes of the situation.

Searching‘s premise isn’t entirely original, but the unique screenplay of the film does wonders. It keeps you gripped throughout the search, albeit the story does have its loopholes.

The film is a fascinating journey of how much our lives are accessible through our online activity. If you are into technology and thrillers, you will enjoy this one.
